imridethelghtng Sep 11, 2005 06:21 PM

my 04 female biak which is a yellow baby just shed a couple days ago and after she shed it was time for her to eat so i didnt look at her too closely just put her rat in there and let her eat well today when i went to give her the daily misting i looked her over closely and she is starting to turn green she has little patches on her 3 or 4 scales here 1 scale green over there i know that biaks are slow to turn green and i know the shed doesnt have anything to do with it but once a green tree starts turning green how long does it usually take before they finish turning i have read anywhere from overnight up to several months was just curious

Well, my biak got his first green scales several months ago, and has been adding a couple every week or so since...but from what I've heard about biaks, they can take years to completely change. I recently picked up an aru, so we'll see how diff the 2 are in about a year.

I just re-read your post and noticed yours was yellow baby. If you ever have the chance to get a red Biak go for it. The prolonged color change with a biak red baby is very eyecatching. Mine started to go rust then orange then yellow as he started to get his green scales. If someone looked at him today they would swear he started as a yellow baby, as most scales if not green are yellow. Smog is also getting some black outlining his dorsal diamonds, kinda cool. It is a very different change then what i'm starting to see in my sorong in which i would say he just looks dirty. Clint

It can take years. Some belive biaks never stop changing. I have a 3 year old female who is still changing.

Hey Jules,
Thanks for posting that series of pictures of your Biak. I just picked up an adult, and saw that there were some patterns outlining what are the bars or white saddles on the dorsum, which appeared to me to be more like that which you see on a red baby. The pictures you posted completely confirmed my notion and theory on it. I know now, that I'll be breeding some red line Biaks. At least that likelihood is greater than it once was with my Biaks that started out as yellow babies.

Glad to hear it, my sorong has been changing for about two weeks now. A litle more green everyday now. I hope this is a case of good things come to those who wait. Clint
