Male Beadeds have longer tails?

bleibow Sep 11, 2005 09:35 PM

I've been reading Beck's new book on Heloderms and one of the more fascinating observations was that there was a visable difference in tail length in between male and female beadeds. Well i was wondering what your observations have been, do your male beadeds have longer tails? Do you find them easier to sex than gilas?

In my own limited experience with this groupo, I have found that tail length is not a sure fire way to address this topic. While I believe males would logically have a longer tail than females, it is not always the case. In my group I have two animals which would, based on tail length, appear to be male however, I have another with a much shorter tail that has exhibited male like behavior. These animals are all in the 2-4 year old range so I imagine they must be starting to mature, hopefully they will reveal more to me as they grow. Got any pics of your lizards?
