Quick question(slightly OT)

Ryan Shackleton Jul 18, 2003 05:50 PM

Just wondering-for those anti-venomoid people who have an opinion on this issue, what do you think about de-scenting ferrets or(where legal) skunks? Got curious because these are the latest "pet of the moment" in my area and didn't know how to feel about this.

I"m also opposed to altering any other animal in whatsoever way (hope I wrote that correct )

The whole point about keeping "wild" animals it that they are in fact "unaltered" Not like dogs, cats and livestock for instance.

I've been a vet-tech for years and I've send away numerous people away who wanted their cats de-clawed..
If you're not gonna keep the animal as it is... Dont keep it!

So, ferrets and skunks aren't made to be "pets" due to their "odor" that's just the way it is, the only option if you'd really want to keep them is to keep them outdoors.

(just my 2 cents.. )

Cheers,
Peter

One can keep skunks (and ferrets) as pets without ever really worrying about them spraying. Therefore descenting is unecessary. At least that's what the skunk people say. One does have to spay female skunks and ferrets for their own health unless one is breeding them.

I don't know. I assume you're right.

Just for readers info, Female ferrets need to have their ovaries removed if someone doesn't breed them, they'l develop leucemia is they stay intact and don't breed.

I was kinda looking into skunks a while back, but I don't think it would get along with the dog. So that's the only reason I know :P.
