Can you feed silkworm something else besides mulberry leaves or the silkworm chow?
They don't have to pupate just, grow untill the last instar before pupation.

You can get them to nibble on a few things (squash, lettuce, some foliage) but they will not feed on it for long nor grow well. If you need to fill in some time while waiting for chow or leaves you can try butternut squash, but when providing silkworms you need the mulberry or chow.
What about ordering older ones? Maybe adults and sub adults so you do not have to feed them for so long, therefore use less chow, which I know can get pricey. Feed of the adults first and then sub adults as they grow.
