Am I being paranoid...

taylor578 Sep 12, 2005 08:17 AM

This morning Frank was coiled up in his hidey rock with just his head and tail showing. His mouth is slightly parted. I never saw the inside of my other two snakes mouthes unless they were feeding, this is weird. Should I be concerned or is this normal for a Dumeril?

Thanks!!!
Taylor

It is not normal for a Dumeril's or probably any snake to leave their mouth open for long periods of time. Is there any mucus apparent, or bubbling through the nostrils?

There wasn't any bubbles when I posted this message, but that night when I got home there were. I took him to the vet yesterday. He said he looks pretty good, that he may have the beginnings of a resp infection, but it is not yet serious. I am supposed to warm his cage up for a couple weeks then take him back in. If the bubbles dont clear up right away, i am supposed to take him in sooner.
No bubbles today, and no open mouth breathing! so far so good.

Thanks,
Taylor
