Introducing new gecko to old one

chris09 Sep 12, 2005 12:46 PM

Hi, I have an 11 year old female leopard gecko that has lived in a modest ten gallon tank her whole live, by herself. I just finished a 30-gallon planted desert terrarium that will be her new home.

I would like to add another female gecko, but I am unsure how mine will react having never seen another of her kind since she was a hatchling. The tank has several hiding spots and is roomy enough for them to get out of each others way.

What does everyone think? should I get another gecko or let "Fifi" enjoy the new tank on her own?

Personally i would just let her have the tank to herself, but i never keep multiple animals together cause i am too nervous about the health risks.

11yrs is a long time to be alone, and she may have an issue getting used to a new gecko.

If you do decide to try another gecko, make sure its a female. All new additions need a minumum 60-90day quarentine to make sure they are healthy, so for a couple of months just leave her on her own.

After that, try introducing them in neutral territory..(out of their cages)...and see how they react.
