Advise needed: Am I being paranoid???

taylor578 Sep 12, 2005 01:00 PM

This morning Frank (my new 4 year old dumeril boa - got him sunday at a reptile show)was coiled up in his hidey rock with just his head and tail showing. His mouth is slightly parted. I never saw the inside of my other two snakes mouthes unless they were feeding, this is weird. Should I be concerned or is this normal for a Dumeril? Also, he seemed to be drinking a lot of water yesterday. I rarely saw my other two snakes drink, and when I did, it wasn't for long. Frank spent most of the day yesterday hovering over his water bowl. I cannot be sure how much he drank, but I am wondering if he could be sick.

Thanks!!!
Taylor

Do you see mucus coming out? I would take him to a vet.

I don't see any mucus, but contacted the vet today. He cannot see me until Thursday, can I wait that long, or should I try to get an appt with another vet?

Thanks,
Taylor

If the snake is otherwise bright, alert, and active then it will be okay to wait this long. If this isn't the case, then call your vet back and let them know that it may be more urgent than you first thought and they may fit you in.
