This one is a possible keeper. Amazingly their mellow. They haven't offered to bite. The parents were exceptionally nasty for their first couple of years.

Those are really cool looking snakes, btw.

Why do you cut holes for them in their egg shells? Is it because you're afraid they might not get out on their own? Just curious.

Thanks, Terry.

The first one that made a slit never came out. After sveral others emerged I cut open the egg to find a fully developed dead baby. Their was one egg left so I made a hole just in case. I'm sure my incubation methods leave a bit to be desired. Last year I had a similar thing happen with a baby black pine.

I was just wondering if that happened frequently, 'cus I'm working with my first clutch of taeniura. Maybe I need to cut the eggs too, once they start pipping?

I had two fully developed Taiwan's that never emerged two years ago. 13 did. I've read a post or two where people have made an opening for some of the rarer asian rats, just to be safe. I'm no expert and am interestred in the answer myself. Take care, Don.

Thanks for sharing, Don. I know it has to do with caring for your babies making it, but I was thinking it might also have to do with the taeniura having a little thicker shells than most ratsnakes. I guess I'll get some experience soon and find out how mine do. Cheers.....Terry.
