Fish in Snake tank?

rusti Sep 12, 2005 03:32 PM

Is is safe for both the snake and the fish to have a separate bowl in my snake's terrarium to house a beta fish? would the snake eat it? could the fish or something in the fish water harm the snake? The snake is 2' 8" and is used to eating frozen/thawed mice. the terrarium is a 20 gallon tank and the snake get's fed every 10 days. any responses welcome.

No, yes, and yes.

No it is not safe. Yes the snake MAY (not going to say absolutely, but it is close to absolutely) try to eat it. And yes the water could harm the snake. Fish poops, it stays in the water even if it is partly changed.

On top of that, remember that the snake's water needs changed out daily to insure that it is clean (trust me it gets nasty quick!).

Thanks for asking before trying! Any more questions post 'em and good luck with your ball python!

If you're talkin' puttin' the Bettas bowl inside the snake tank, my first concern would be that the snake will most likely, at least, knock the bowl over just from cruisin' around the tank. Possible even break it. Then ya lose the fish and risk the snake getting cut on broken glass.
