What do you guys think of my little poptart?

drunkmike Sep 12, 2005 05:00 PM

Well you all know the story.. I picked her up for $15 from a pet store with not much color at all to her, but she is getting prettier and prettier every day! She just shed about 2 days ago, has been basking all day long and just got done a huge feeding of crix so she is happy and very colorful right now The camera doesnt really do her justice as the yellows are alot more vibrant and her legs arent as "pale" as they look there.. they have a slight reddish tint on the dark areas.. I was trying to snap a few good ones of her, but she saw the crix over in her feeding tank and was ready for more lol. What do you guys think? I still have no idea what morph or anything she is, and cant find any info on the breeder or whatever to see what she will look like eventually so I guess I just have to wait..

I forgot to add in the other post I finally got her to sit still long enough to measure her and she came out to about 9.5 inches head to tail.. I have a vet visit with her later this week to figure out how much she weighs and all so I dont know that now.. is that a pretty good size for only be only a little over 3 months old or what? Thanks again!

What type of lighting and bulbs are you using?

drunkmike Sep 12, 2005 07:17 PM

as far as heat I'm using regular household lightbulbs, the uvb lights are dual repti-glow 8.0's in her tank to cover it from front to back.. lots of crix, supers lots of greens calci every day and multivits once a week..

she is a very spoiled little girl but I want her to make me some pretty babies one day hopefully!

is this normal in beardeds for there legs to be a different color like her's are? even sitting here looking at them now they like I said have the red tint to them, but are still very white.. is that just what morph she is or something?

joeyR Sep 12, 2005 08:11 PM

she looks like a norm/sandfire or norm/norm and somewhere in the bloodline she has some sandfire in here. How do you post pics on here i will send u a pic of few that i have....one is just like that one

drunkmike Sep 12, 2005 08:50 PM

you really thing she is possibly a norm? I have 2 adult norms that I have raised from babies, and the never had even a smidge of color like this baby has.. like I said the yellow-ish spots are actually a very bright lemon yellow and the orange/reds is brighter and the darks are actually red.. my camera sucks

joeyR Sep 12, 2005 11:35 PM

yes i do believe she was crossed between a norm and something else.... my bd has 2 solid orange stripes running down here back and when she is excited her sides seem to have a hint of blue.... under her beard is yellow and orange and he has a yellow around her eyes and going to where her ears would be. She is a Norm but back in her bloodline there was a sandfire mixed in so thats where the color came from. if you picked her up from the pet store for 15 bucks than i am pretty sure she would be a norm like mine but with something else in its bloodline.

how do you post pictures on your posts.... if u can tell me how i will send u a pic of mine

well it wasnt exactly a pet store.. it is a little rinky dink shop that a local lady setup and she sells stuff just a hair above what she pays so all of the locals here go there instead of to the big chains.. she had a entire tank of babies from this batch and they were all very norm looking when I picked it up.. she was just trying to get rid of them at the time because she wanted to go more into a fish store and said that reptiles werent exactly what she intended on in the first place so thats why I picked her up for $15.. she actually came from a local herp show that runs through Maryland a few times a year and like I said the pic really does her no justice I wish you could see her in real life.. all of the brown on her is actually yellow except for further down her tail it turns brownish. the stripes on her back are very bright and vibrant as well as the stripes along her sides (where her side spikes are) and she has hints of bright orange/red all through the top of her head as well as on her chin and around her ears and all.. and like I said her legs are of course pale with faint red accents..

if you look down to the bottom a bit when you post a message you will see "Image URL:" that is where you put your image tag like http://blahblah.com/image.jpg

She is a little gem. You got very lucky on that one. I think she makes a beautiful pet, but I don't think it would be ethical to breed her.
The bearded dragon gene pool is already extremely weak and it's true that most dragons in the U.S. are related in some way or another. While the signs of inbreeding may not be obvious at first, with time you start getting smaller and smaller dragons, dragons that can't resist sickness, and failure to thrive. You can see it happening all over.
Just something to think about.
