A question on feeding

Hi,
I have had a 4-feet ball python for the last 7 months. I recently switched from 4-mice a week to one f/t medium rat per week. Am I overfeeding the snake?
With the previous schedule, I noticed it started roaming the cage within 3-4 days of eating (even during daytime), while it stayed coiled up for most part of the week with this new schedule. Does this mean I did a good thing in switching?

A medium rat a week sounds perfect for a four foot ball!
