Some recent stuff

zagarus42 Sep 12, 2005 11:13 PM

I just got back from my first trip out west. I did not spend much time herping but was able to turn some stuff up. There were also some more DORs and various lizards to speedy for my camera.

One morning Mike Barker was kind enough to meet up with me. We didn't have a ton of luck but we turned up a couple of these neat tanks.

My last night I wanted to cruise some roads with the monsoons blowing through. Unfortunately, the roads I had planned on cruising ended up flooded out and closed. I changed game plans and turned this guy up.

I have not had a ton of time lately, but in the Ohio neck of the woods I finally lucked into a live rough green, after 4 DORs.

The baby fence lizards were out in abundance, as well as these guys...

In June I really lucked in the first ribbon snake found in Vinton Co in over 40 years while cruising. Carl and I had been meaning to get back and hike around the habitat ever since. We finally got a chance on Sun and we checked it out. No ribbons snakes but I finally got the habitat shot.

Oh well, always a next time...

Thanks Chris!

I would imagine as this month progresses it is going to get harder to turn one up... I would get out there as soon as possible.

Looks like you found enough to keep you busy in AZ.
Cool tortoise!

Congrats on the OH rough green...Those little guys have still eluded my camera. I know I must have driven and walked past hundreds though...

Thanks Dean, and believe me I know what you mean about walking/driving by those rough greens. I sorta feel like a do have a bit of an eye for them (4 very dead ones) and the one in N.C., mostly because I find myself stopping for everything green that is on the road or road edge! This was no different. I passed by the snake going about 45 and swore to myself it was just a piece of grass sticking out on the road. After forcing myself to reverse, for the 4th or 5th time that day, it turns out luck was on my side! Now while hiking, I just don't even know where to begin. I guess I would need for one to fall out of a tree and land on me...

Amazing animals though and I can not wait to see another.

You've got some mail by the way.

great pics once again hey how common are the rough green snake in our area never found one but would love to maybe i to have just passed them by without notice well great rattler pics to i always enjoy your pics

Sorry I took so long to reply to this. Rough green snakes are not common in the Cincinnati area. Turning one up would be an extremely significant find. That being said, there are some areas around near the rivers that look like they should have them and I would not be suprised if one showed up. The trouble is these guys are just hard to spot - you have to just kind of stumble across them on the trail or hope to see one on the road.
