Beware or so called reptile rescues

dragonballs Sep 12, 2005 11:14 PM

I hate more then anything is a reptile rescue that kills more reptiles then they save. We have a big problem with one up here in Sheboygan Wisconsin. I have rescued reptile from them. I'm so upset about their unprofessional appearence and attitude. I was once part of this one and I had left because of a number of issues. So me and a few members desided we will make a different one. Well as soon as they found out he posted some stupid stuff how we tryed to shut him down and some other crap. I'm not trying to shut him down but would like people to know to make sure the society you are giving stuff to takes care of what they get. Make sure they take their stuff to the vet. You have the right to know. Sorry for venting a little but it hurts to see this stuff.

As a rescue operator myself I almost hate to admit it...but he's RIGHT! There are a lot of so-called "reptile rescues" that have a lot of serious issues, or should be shut down immediately. It is always a good idea to check references and a lot of other stuff before you get involved with any rescue organization.

Let's face it there are a lot of shady people in the reptile trade, and they're everywhere, even running "rescues". Keep in mind though that many rescues are run by very honest, very generous people who are giving their all to do the best they can with what little they have. So please do your research about any rescue organizations you need to work with, but BE NICE to the good ones too! We are trying our best in a very frustrating, never-ending, volunteer line of work

Call your local animal shelter or herp society to find out if their is a reptile rescue in your area. If there is, find out if you can help them out! I know our rescue can always use it!
