Coral snows?

ronda Jul 18, 2003 06:50 PM

This year I bred two of my ghosts together for the first time, and their clutch is finally hatching. So far, two ghosts and two snows have pipped. Since those snows are homozygous hypo, they are what is called a "coral snow," correct? Can anyone tell me if hypo snows looks different than a regular snow right out of the eggs? These look more white/colorless to me, but I was under the impression that coral snows are more colorful than their regular snow counterparts. That color must develop with each shed?

Thanks for any insight. I'll post photos after they shed.

Don Soderberg has a photo in his photogallery, under "Snows", that shows the difference between a regular snow, a coral snow, and a pink and green snow.

Could you post a picture of your hypo snow. I would love to see it.
Thanks.

I don't have any recent photos of him, but here are some I've posted at one time or another in the past.

(They are listed oldest to most recent)

Washed out a bit:

Don told me it takes about 6 months until you can clearly distinguish snows from coral snows.

I'll be doing my own coral snow project next season. I have a hypo male, het for snow and a female snow, het for hypo. I can't wait, I LOVE hypo snows

. . I can't get used to how long it takes for that to load and I keep hitting "send" a second time. Sheesh. When am I gonna learn?

Ronda:

All the snows I've produced from two ghosts were white out of the eggs as you see. If you throw then in with a clutch of snows, you'll lose them 'till they're several months old. Then, you'll see amazing transformations.

If it wasn't for Jim Stelpflug, I may never know about these snakes. Years back I told him I got some snows from two ghosts and he urged me to hang onto them. He promised outstanding "coral" colors and he was right. Thanks, Jim.

You won't regret keeping those. Good luck with them and keep us all posted,
