What's causing my baby to lighten up only when held?

icemom Sep 13, 2005 01:26 PM

My beardie is glowing yellow with some orange when held. Nearly all the rest of the time he turns pretty dark, probably with the exeption when he goes outside on the leash for a walk. His cage is 4': 2': 2', basking temps are range from 100 to 110, depends on the spot he picks, he's housed on the shelf liner, currently I don't have UVB light as I'm replacing ESU light for being pretty much useless with Mega-Ray bulb (external ballast). But he's exposed daily for a few hours of natural Fla sunlight. He eats, sleeps and poops well. Should I be concerned about him being dramatically darker when he's not held or riding on my or my kids shoulder? Do any of your dragons do the same? Is it normal/ common. I do realize that he looves to be held, but still.. Please reply.

Thanks. Irina

When they lighten up, so does their color. They turn dark when they are in a bad mood or they need heat. In other words, he likes you!
