Green reptile carpet?

goini04 Sep 13, 2005 03:37 PM

Hello all,

I am wondering about peoples experience with the Green Reptile carpet you can get at pet stores? I hear that stuff is hard to clean and really isn't a suitable substrate. However, people still continue to use it and recommend it. I dont use it and dont prefer to, but I would like to know if anyone has noticed any health problems with their animals after being housed on reptile carpet for a period of time?

Thanks,

Chris

If you are talking about reptile cage carpet, the cloth stuff, I have had pretty good luck with it. I just scrape off anything that is on it, and I throw it in the washer with bleach and a little soap. I rinse 2 time then dry. Derek

I think he's talking about more like the astroturf stuff. The really bristely green matting that really wasn't made for reptile substrate in the first place. I've never used it so I couldn't tell you.

No, actually I believe he had the right idea. At pet stores in the reptile sections they usually sell this thin green carpet stuff that they claim is reptile carpet or something like that. I have just heard the stuff is practically impossible to clean and wouldnt be a recommended as suitable substrate. His idea makes sense though, and I will probably look a little more into it.

Thanks,

Chris

hey Chris...

I´ve used that green carpet, I don´t like it much... as you said its hard to clean and not a good walking substrate for some lizards... like small monitors or leopard gackos, which get their nails stucked on it...

good look
