First litter of rats, and the first problem feeding live...

Voodoo_Charlie Sep 13, 2005 03:43 PM

My live problem isnt anywhere near a gnawed head or anything, just a problem with the second live rat pinky Escobar has had. I came home to find 10 little pink mcnuggets in my rat tub and figured I'd give a couple to my boa (28" and was due to eat). He chomped down the first one doubled over, and the second one... heh. He nailed it from behind and got half in his mouth before he knew it. Of course he didn't have any recourse but to consume it, it went down still kickin. Now this is an hours-old pinky, but I saw it wiggling in Escobar's throat as it went down. Will this lead to problems?

Huge problems for the rat pinky, definitely. For Escobar? Not likely. It would have suffocated rather quickly. I had this happen repeatedly with ratsnakes I have had who refused to kill anything before attempting to swallow it.

I've seen blue beauties, corn snakes, and even my little Suriname take pinks and fuzzies without killing them. No difficulties.
