I caught a 3.5-4 foot black rat snake. It was unusual, first because it is as docile from the first as a captive rasied corn snake. Second, because it has retained about 35-40% of its juvenille coloring(it happens sometimes I know)It is dark but has fairly clear saddles. Then I picked it up and saw its belly. About 1/3 of the way down its belly the check marking starts up black with red/orange checks too. It starts pale then gets more frequent and darker gradually toward the tail until the last 1/3 or more is orange(no white) with black checks. Further inspection showed that the orange(skin and some scale edges) was wrapped up the sides but does not noticably cross the back. This is strange to me. Is it worth mentioning???
