Albino Iguana's

MultipleMorphHerps Sep 13, 2005 07:15 PM

Hey guys/gals of the Ig. Forum. I was giving it some thought that when I move into a permanent house, I would like to build a large ig display cage which would house an albino iguana. Here are a few questions I have about them.

1) How sensitive to light are they
2) What are they going for
3) Who sells them

I am very familiar with iguanas so it's not like I would just go out and purchase one just because I could.

You can find them for sale at Kingsnake.com classifieds, in the "lizards' section. They are pricey, but I think they look kind of strange, like they are unhealthy. Not that I think they are unhealthy, it just get a hint of that from the pics. Also, if they are true albinos, their eyes will lack pigment and look pink, and their eyesight will be to some extent impaired.

They have also more difficulty thermo-regulating their bodies (absorb and lose heat too quickly), and cannot blend in the natural environment, which can be somewhat stressful for an initially timid animal.

To be honest, I think they are a waste of money, but hey, if you got the dough and the will, go for it.
