HOLY MOLY! Look what just hatched out on Monday morning (9-12-2005)!

Look what just hatched out on Monday morning (9-12-2005)!
Take a look at this! This was produced by my friend Dan Kenedy. He did it by breeding a wild-caught male Banded hypo Cal King to a CB female Banded albino Cal King. There were 6 good eggs of which 3 hatched out fully striped, while the remaining 3 hatched out fully banded (nothing inbetween, just fully striped, or fully banded). The stripeds probed out as females and two of the bandeds probed as males. The last banded had not left the safety of his egg by the time that I left so I could not probe it. None of the babies came out hypo like the father, which leads me to believe that it is most likely a simple recessive trait. Aside from being het for albino and most likely het for hypo, there seems to be something else at play with these guys. Check out how one of the striped females came out! Pics of the father will follow the pics of this very unique baby.

Very cool. I had one or two Cal kings hatch out this year with a very similar "look" to their scales, only it went away?? Dunno what the heck that was about. Hope yours stays that way.

That IS NOT a "calico" cal king. In fact after they shed, soon after, that will go away. I've had that happen to me before.

A lot of speckling and a white head that disappeared soon after shedding.

Please post pics of those after they shed.

Thanks for the insight Kerby. I appreciate it, and I will post pics as it sheds, and I will keep you and the rest of the forum posted on its progress. Thanks again your knowledge is much appreciated.

that thinks that is considerably uglier than a good old fashioned jet black and clean white cal king,be it banded or striped??

James Wilson Sep 15, 2005 01:42 AM

"congrats; but,am i the only one that thinks that is considerably uglier than a good old fashioned jet black and clean white cal king,be it banded or striped??"

Congrats, apparently you are, and I wonder if I am the only one that thinks your comment was stupid?

I really do not need your insincere congratulations. If you think it is ugly than just say so and leave it at that. There is no need to disguise your criticism into some kind of backhanded congratulations. You don't go up to someone that just had a baby and say "congratulations on the ugly baby" or to someone with a new car and say "congratulations on your new piece of junk".

i personally think the 'designer morph' thing is way out of hand....and i am entitled to my opinion, and the right to spout off about it here-this is the place....that being said,i still can appreciate all the hard work, dedication, and know-how needed to hatch out any snake,'designer phase' or not...so my congratulations were not insincere...now that that's all out of the way-can i ask-is that guy an f1,f2,f3,or what?

I believe all of the details in regard to the background on this snake are all right there in the first post.

I appreciate that, but Kerby is probably correct in that it will probably shed off after the first shed. I am just not that luckie. I will keep everyone posted.

To those that find it to be an ugly snake, I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Who knows, if the snake could talk, maybe it would say that you were ugly...
