Feeding my Racers

brightwellb Sep 13, 2005 08:02 PM

I am the same guy who posted an emergency that 12 bably black racers were hatching. well really 22 but i have 12 and it turns out that the rest were still alive and i had set the incubator full of eggs (thought to be infertile or rotten) outside and i come back and all the eggs were slit and no snake inside so there ya go lol. But i still have 11 right now. They dont eat pinkies, they dont eat crickets. Yet the will gobble up frogs and anoles like no tomorrow. Just the problem is i have only caught 2 anoles and 1 frog and those were catches of opportunity, i certaintly cant catch enough to feed them every 2 weeks, so i have 8 racers still hungry never been fed yet since they hatched over a month ago. But they are very active little suckers though. I dont want to get rid of them but is push comes to shove then so be it. Does anyone know where i can get inexpensive anoles over the internet or anywhere(besides finding them outside). I have found them for like $5 on the internet but i cant afford $55 every 2 weeks for my snakes.

If I were you I would pick my two favorites and let the rest go. They have a better chance of survival in the wild than they do in captivity if you are unable to feed them. Try looking for tadpoles in shallow ponds as a possible food item.

Greetings,
Please don't get upset when I say what I am requesting. I have baby king cobras that will only eat baby black racers right now. I have to get them established before I start the scenting process to rodents. I live in florida and work 10-12 hours a day , so I don't get a chance to hunt. Could I get any of the babies that don't make it or if possable 1 or 2 live ones? I would feel better asking you due to the fact you hatched these, so it should be safe to assume they have not been in contact with pestacides. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Jeremy
