Help, my ball python has bumps in his back. i was checking him today and its getting worse, he has red blotches underneath his neck.

question:
1. Ive been using snake oil to wipe him down, is this good?
2. What treatment can i do? Vet appointment is on Sept. 24, is this too long?
3. Is it fatal to my pet? Will it go away on the next shed?

The best thing to do is to disinfect his enclosure, keep him dry and warm until the Vet... And the 24th IS too long of a wait, it needs to be treated ASAP... It could be fatal or might be superficial, that's what the bacteria culture is for.. I wouldn't use any types of oil on him, it might harbor and sustain bacteria growth... Hope this helps.

Definately clean out his cage and make everything is good and dry. Up your temps. Another thing to do is this: clean in and around the infected areas with half water, half hydrogen-peroxide mixture, and then rub Polysporin onto the wounds. make sure you rub it in well, under the scales and all. Do the cleaning and rubbing twice a day until you get him to a vet.

Hi, I had a similar problem very recently - though i dont think it was quite as bad as yours.

I hope no one more experienced has a fright at this but to sort it out I bathed her twice a day for 15 minutes in an iodine solution and the added a little antiseptic cream to the worst effected area.

It took three rapid sheds to completly go, the last being last week (but it was only a tiny bit left)but is fine now and she is eating well. I hope that helps if you still cant get to the vets any sooner.
