Leather backs. What is exactly up with them?

Are leather backs breeding true? Would you get all leather backs when both parents are. Do they produce hets when breeding a leather back to a normal etc, etc. Just find them interesting and wanted a little more general genetic background on them.

I would also like to know more about them. I hatched a very unusual baby about three weeks ago that is much different then the rest of the siblings.
