South Florida Herping

phobos Sep 14, 2005 10:03 AM

Some pictures of a few of the snakes we (Al, Joe, Rob)caught & released last night. Sadly many DOR's were seen too.

1) Mr. Piggy as we found him
2) Mr. Piggy looking tough
3) Flawless Yellow Rat Snake surveying his Kingdom.

Enjoy,
Al

You can take the snake out of the jungle but you can't take the jungle out of the snake.

Back in 1974 I found an old circus bigtop back in the glades off the Tamiami trail, probably an old carny or somthing, anyways it was loaded with yellow rats in the rafters and corns in the duff on the ground, its probably gone but I will never forget the first time I saw all those snakes...
Its nice to see there are some around still!
Cheers

Nothing is more enjoyable than field herping! Great shots Al, what area of Florida were you at?

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Rob:

In the Everglades off "Gator Alley". I was horrified by the number of road kills, nice ones, just like in the photographs, many species, not just Herps. Roads through this area are killing fields for wildlife. For every one we saw live, there were five DOR. Twice that for Water Snakes, Garters, Greens & Ribbons.

And four piggies. Kept this one with reddish blotches. Neat.
