You raised him, or did they? The only thing I have been able to determine so far is that hydration has nothing to do with pyramiding (I've seen pyramiding in water turtles--which really rules hydration out)
I've taken it and I'm going to run...
There are very few thing I will state in the biology of tortoies but hydradion and pyramiding has a very definate link.

This is a 'half empty/ half full' question.
The bottom line is that there is a direct link to hydration and good shell development. Now, Stating it the other way, there is a direct link to dehydration and poor shell development. You can pick the one that suits you.
