It is NEVER ethical to sell a WC Adult Boxie. Return the animal to the wild, unless it is injured and cannot be released. It is always best to leave the animal in the wild, there are plenty of CB animals to be adopted or bought. Sometimes it just takes a little time and energy to find them.

Currently, it is legal to keep up to four of any native species of turtle in NC. Excluded from that list are Spiny softshell, Bog, Diamondback terrapin, and Spotted turtles I believe. Those four are protected against possession. So, it is legal to keep up to four box turtles. It is illegal to sell, barter, trade, or even think about selling (kidding) any turtle in NC. You can, however, rescue from a bonafide rescue group and purchase from out of state. As far as ethics go...evidence shows that these turtles can withstand moderate collection for the pet trade...that's why the limit stands at four. They cannot, however, withstand the road fatalities. Please think about obtaining rescued, un-releasable road injured turtles from the "Turtle Team" at NC State University. Also, join the NC Herpetological Society.
