I'm looking into switching to roaches in place of crickets...anyone who uses them as feeders, how many is a good numer to start off with to get a colony going?? we have the two beardies and a leopard gecko...any hints or tips you could give me learned through experience...any pros and cons...I want to make a very well informed decision...thanks

you need a minimum of 50-100 from what ive learned . i'm in the process of starting up a colony of discoids now. i got mine from blaberus.com. the site has all kinds of good info and they stand behind their feeders. my first batch didn't survive shipping and they replaced them no questions asked. i highly recommend them. here's a link to the site.

Blaptica dubia is the most popular species, but there are many good ones. I have a new sampler pack in the feeder classifieds so people can try many species. On the above post I did replace them, but it is very uncommon for them to die. Out of several hundred shipments I've only had three bad ones do to heat.

I've been doing the research, trying hard to make a decision...I'd rather not have climbers...but would like something hardy...would like to try starting a colony very soon as I have problems with winter shipping of crix...so you should once you have a colony, different sizes pretty much available all the time??
