Chlorhexadine?

goini04 Sep 14, 2005 09:06 PM

Hey all,

I have read that this stuff is the same as Virosan? Is this correct, and is it as safe and widely used as Virosan?

I appreciate your opinions and thoughts.

I know that Chlorhexidene Diacetate is the same as Nolvasan, but is Nolvasan the same as Virosan?

Ultimately I would say your guess is as good as mine. I only read that it was a generic version of Virosan/Nolvasan. You can check this website and make an opinion of your own.

http://www.mgreptiles.com/VIROSAN.html

I found it doing a google search for nolvasan.

I have used Virosan, Nolvasan, and generic chlorhexadine. They are typically either C. diacetate or C. gluconate and I understand them to be very similar.

Hope that helps.

Oh yeah, feel free to e-mail me as per the thread on the Burmese Forum.

Chris,

Thanks much! If they are pretty much the same thing, then it doesn't really matter which one I get. I just noticed that the particular website (view link in previous post) had half-gallons as opposed to just 1 gallon like pro-exotics. That half gallon was only like 17.00 (of course shipping), as opposed to 50.00 for a gallon from pro-exotics. It will still last me a good period of time and I can make multiple spray bottles. Is is true that it can be used for minor abrasions and abscesses and stuff as well as for cleaning purposes?

Seems like this stuff is certainly worth the money regardless if that is the case.

Chris,

I do use chlorhexadine on abrasiona, abcess', etc. You might check around locally. I did not check your link, but my last gallon was less than $20 after taxes. In the last town I lived in I could buy it for about $12 a gallon from a wholesaler. But I had to get four gallons.

goini04 Sep 15, 2005 07:05 AM

oh ok cool. Do you think they will carry it as livestock stores, etc?

I have found it at livestock store, veternarian offices, and a vaccine supply store.

I have found it cheap in three different towns in three different states now. I can't imagine it's that hard to find, but maybe I got lucky.

I did not realize that the link in the third post was to Mgreptiles whose owner is a regular participant on this forum.

I did not mean to imply at all that people should shop elsewhere or anything. I just did not notice and was pointing out what prices I was able to find locally.

goini04 Sep 15, 2005 05:35 PM

Nor did I realize that the link was to a participant on this forum. Actually, I got the link through doing a long google search for nolvasan and virosan. My apologies, as I didnt mean to be offensive.

Hey guys no worries... The local places here(in WV of all places, that is full of livestock) charge more than what I sell it at..lol.. The main reason you will pay a higher dollar online is because of the shipping cost to receive it from the manufacture.. Each case of 4 weighs about 40-45 pounds, and we get 10 cases a week.. That adds up super quick...
