A nice little litter of South Brazilians...

Barry Miller Sep 14, 2005 10:47 PM

These are from a 2000 female produced by Bubba. There's some animals with perfect saddle patterns hiding in that pile. Note that even a small litter of south Brazilians comes with the obligatory freak. More pics later. I didn't breed very many animals this year (I only breed the females every other year, and as many of you know they almost ALL went last year). Consequently, I didn't cool the room as much, so I'm getting small litters. In my experience, if you want good size litters (of babies, not slugs), then you have to cool them.

That's an interesting observation on cooling - how cool are you talking about, and is that true for all subtypes of bcc? Mark

I here Barry and some others talk about this " cooling effect " as it concerns viable litters and low to no slug count, but nobody seems to want to give any good parameters on temperatures??? So, how about it? Alot of young herpers and even some of us older ones, would love to know those parameters, that some breeders seem to believe so much in. To just say " cool them " is a very loose statement and for the benefit of others and the animals they keep, how about a little more detail?? Without some detail on the temperature parameters, we could start alot of these guys off in the direction of respiratory, so what is the fine line between optimal low temperatures and temperatures that are two low, that lead to respiratory and other illness factors. Now, we understand that some of these are considered " guarded secrets " by the " elite breeders " of the country, but think of the overall benefits to other peoples animals " wich is what we are suppose to love " theirs and ours, if a little more detail was given by you guys that are so very successfull in what you do?? Good question Whitneywee and we will see if we get any answers????...........Johnson Herp
