mercury vapor

mkurgan Jul 18, 2003 09:28 PM

i will be setting up another tank to split my beardies. i am looking into the mercury vapor for both heat and my uvb needs. i was wondering if they sell anything smaller than 100 watts. im using a 75 watt "basking bulb"zoo med i think) and the basking spot gets to about 110-115 degrees. my tank is 18" tall.

there is no reliable 60 watt merc vapor...i would buy a 35 dollar zoomed 100 watt powersun (from reptiledirect.com) and also get a thermostat, and then lower your temps from there....good luck

so how does the thermostat work? say it gets to 130 degrees, if i turn it down, does it just put out less power? are all thermostats the same? also, is the powersun just as good as the rest of the bulbs(mercury vapor) for uvb?

and if you use a thermostat it will switch of you bulb when it gets to warm switching it off and on all day and it takes like 20 min for the thing to get fully wound up good.

use the 100 watt and raise it up higher off the tank if it gets to warm.
