Candeling eggs....

mavh2 Sep 15, 2005 12:53 PM

Yesterday was day 35,
Is it to early to tell what will be popping out of eggs when i
candle them?

Because inside the eggs looked like a white worm with black
stripes and lots of veins. Or is this just my wishful thinking.

I don't know how the big breeders do it.. This waiting is killing
me. I still walk in my snake room and look at the eggs.

Some say they can tell a spider from a normal by candling..others say they have seen which were albinos too.
So maybe you yourself will get to see the difference this year.

that is..if you can leave the incubator door closed.

We just had our last clutch drop a couple weeks ago and the suspense is killing us as well.

As far as candleing to see whats in at day 35, I don't think this is possible as the color developes in the last week or so.

We have candled and seen albinos in the eggs and it was pretty obvious.

Hello,

We have seen, in our experience with candleing, that most color/pattern develops around the 30 day period. With most pattern morphs it seems to be quite easy to tell what they are at around day 40 but we have had success as early as day 30-32. Here is what I have experienced this season with a 2 "AA" MagLite flashlight...

Albinos are easy to tell after day 40 but if you roll the eggs in the correct way you can see the dark eyes of animals as early as 28-30 days.

Spiders are a cinch at about 32-35 days just look for the razor sharp pattern.

Pinstripes are easy but you will not see them until around day 40 BUT you can pick the normals out of the clutch at day 30 easy so the ones that look "empty" are the Pins.

Clowns were pretty tough I thought... from a Clown x Clown breeding (so I knew what I was getting anyway) I was just curious but I couldn't really tell until like day 40 but then again I had no normals in the clutch to compare with.

Genetic Stripes are pretty easy since the sides are almost completely patternless.

Hypos are a shade lighter than the normals at around day 40 so it is easy to trick your mind into thinking one way or another.

Caramel Albinos are about the same as Hypos although for me I found them to be a bit harder.

Lemon Blast Pinstripes are very suddle but can be spotted at around day 42 or so.

Lemon Pastels, Pastel Jungles and Mojaves I really can't tell with. I thought I had it on Mojaves but then I was wrong on like 2 out of 5 so that leaves me with little faith that I can tell on these morphs.

I hope that helps a little... I know its hard sometimes. I have had this conversation with a lot of people some can't do it at all and some can do it better than me. My best advice is this... you need a PITCH BLACK ROOM and GOOD BATTERIES in the flashlight. Hell... I like to use Rayovac 15 min rechargeables so that I can juice them up often to keep the light as bright as possible.

Next season I will see if Celia and I can capture the differences in photographs so that it will help people better understand what they are looking at.

Thanks and Good Luck!
