Is Pandora Gravid?

Sasheena May 17, 2003 11:40 PM

Just snapped this picture of Pandora. I'll be taking her water dish out to make sure she doesn't lay in her water dish... IF she's gravid... every time I look at her I have a new opinion. Sometimes I think that she must surely NOT be gravid, and other times I think she is. From above the cloaca to below she tapers off at about twice the angle I'm used to seeing with her, which tells me she's gravid, but she's not near as large as our cal king who laid 8 eggs almost a month ago. Pandora was only bred once, or rather one evening. Every time I glanced at the cage they were either "between sessions" or hooked up together again. I counted at least five times they were hooked up, in between times they weren't. The second time I put the male in with her he seemed to have a whole different reaction to her than before (he regurged!)

Anyway, opinions aside, she is or isn't, but I'll treat her as if she is.

Offer her food, usually if she is gravid and just did her pre-shed she should reject food. If she is not gravid, then she should still be feeding. Not a 100% test............

Well I was cleaning mouse cages and in addition to my recent snake-bitten fingers, I also got mouse-bitten by one foul tempered but beautiful male mouse. I decided that that was enough, whapped him, and threw him in with Pandora. She gobbled him down immediately.

I'll still treat her as gravid. Have to check my records to see how long ago she was bred.

She was bred on Tax day. April 15th. That makes it 32 days since she was bred that she is shedding.

Well that should probably be about right then....and my females have more often than not eaten right before they've laid, but they're all different. All I can say is good luck and keep your eye on her. Do let us know if she pops =)

Yes, she does look a little wider in the hind end than one would normally expect, so I agree with Kerby, she does look like she could be gravid. When was the breeding? Has she shed yet, and if so how long after the breeding was that? Best of luck to you, the parents are beauties =)
