what about zoos?

and are on the endangered species list. They make very poor captives because they are very high strung. I know someone who used to keep them with all the proper permits. I do not believe there are any in zoos. There may be a couple proffesional hrpetologist keeping them with the proper permits.

Yes it is to bad, because they're pritected. But mabe some day someone will be able to start some kind of a domestic population.

I wish,

I thank banding any animal form captivity is to extreme, because if they did go extinct there would not be any of them anywere to bring them back. For example the black footed ferret was thought to be extinct until a small group was found, and from what I heard a pair was captured and breed in captivity and now they are not as endangered but still protected. so I thank the right people should keep certin species so the species will at least have a chance.

well someone mentioned earlier that if you have the proper permits then you can acquire them. i am sure it is a hassle to go through but it shows that you are really concerned about the animal and understand the gravity of their situation.
if they did not protect them, then people would collect them, they could end up with inexperienced people and die off much quicker. i am all for trying to breed them to get the numbers back up, but i wouldn't want just an average joe in charge of that.
and not picking on you but how selfish of the human race would it be to stop protecting them just so people could say they have every type of collared lizard or for whatever reason? to truly love this specie, you have to appreciate all aspects of it, even if it is viewing them in nature and hoping human encroachment doesn't kill off yet another animal.

I never said stop protecting them but let the right people that are at the top of the line and know what they are doing keep them. sorry for not being clear.
