Some size questions

SnakeFreak Sep 15, 2005 04:16 PM

I have a crested thats 3.5 months old and has a snout to vent length of a little over 1.25 inches. I feed him CGD every night. I just got a scale and I weighed him for the first time. According to the scale, he only weighs slightly over 1.5 grams. I'm not sure what he should weigh, but this seems kind of small to me. Is this about what he should weigh? And I've looked at pictures and at shows, and most of the other cresteds his size are more heavily built than he is and they have rounded sides, but he has flat sides and his body looks pretty small for his head, even for a crested. I'll try to post pics later. Are some cresteds just skinny looking? Also, around what size can you tell what their adult coloration will be? Right now he looks like he's going to be a pretty nice orange.

I have two young cresties that are about 1 1/2 months old and they weigh 2 grams each. I'd say yours does seem a little bit small. I've done a lot of reading on crested geckos lately, and sometimes breeders will hatch babies that just grow a lot slower then the others. If that is the case it may take longer for your crestie to reach its full grown size, but in the long run it shouldn't be a problem. If your worried about its weight, try adding a little chicken babyfood (along with some fruit babyfood to cover up the chicken taste) to your CGD. This will give it a little extra protein to help it put on some weight. Hope that helps. Good luck!

that definitely seems a bit small. just about all of my geckos right when they hatch out of the egg are 1.6-1.8 grams.
i've only got 1 out of 14 in the past 2 months that isn't over 2 grams yet, but it's also in a cage with 7 other geckos. i know it's eating, just not gaining weight as quickly as i would like it to. i'm setting up different enclosures and plan on keeping 2-3 geckos per each and i plan on it gaining weight when i do this. some geckos just DON'T like the CGD.
i have one from anthony that hasn't really grown at all in the past 2 months i've had it, all of the other four are growing pretty well. i also plan on separating this one out in the next week to see what happens. try feeding your little guy some gutloaded crickets that are small. some just LOVE the crickets and will hardly touch anything else.
