baby eastern milk snake hibernation

bwells Sep 16, 2005 05:57 AM

I have some baby eastern milk snakes and I want to know about keeping them through the winter. Should I cool them down so they hibernate? I have not experience with this so I wonder if someone could tell me how this works and what I should do. I have a cool basement and the concrete floor might get to 55-60 degrees in the winter but I am not sure yet. What temperature should I keep them at and for how long? How do I keep them cool? Do I feed them or give them water during this time? Anything special about light or bedding? Is this necessary to do or can I keep them in the house and perhaps just slow down feeding them?

I really appreciate any help you can offer.

Thanks
Bryan

Around the end of November stop feeding them. Don't feed them for about 20 days, give them water though. Put them in an area where the temperature will remain 50 degrees to 60 degrees. Make sure they have fresh water. Don't try and feed them. Leave them alone for a couple months.
