Henkeli Calcium question....

Philg Jul 18, 2003 10:51 PM

I have 1.1 Henkels as of now. As far as I've heard, its good to dust every feeding for the females throughout the breeding season. I've also heard that the males have no place to store calcium. My question is, how often should I dust my crickets when feeding them since their needs are different??

I personally have never heard that but who knows, all i have heard is that it is good to gut load and dust every feeding and along with that I supplement all of my females' diet with an occassional snail or two (making sure that they come from an area with no pesticides and are washed clean of any debris or fecal material). Hope this helps!

best wishes,
Max

I think that it is probably easier to tell if they are calcium depleted rather than saturated. And too much calcium can be just as bad as not enough.

Check your female and see if her calcium deposits are noticeable. You should be able to see them right near her shoulders on her underbelly.

If you can see them, I would say to not worry about increasing the amount of calcium you are providing her, as it may be too much.

Could you give me a little more description of the calcium deposits on the female? what should they look like? Would you happen to have a picture of what you are talking about?

I'll take some pictures of my female tonight when I get home.
She is currently gravid and has her calcium deposits pretty well built up =)

As promised, here's a few photos of my female sikorae detailing her calcium deposits.

Bonus shots of her gravid belly!
