HELP!!!!!! (kinda long)

sungazer Sep 16, 2005 01:37 PM

my friend found a baby red coachwhip in his cats mouth! so i was called over and picked up the snake. It is just a baby maximum 10 inches and is missing about 1 cm off its tail. It has about 4 belly scales missing and a 2 cm's of missing skin. It also has numerous punkture marks from the cats claws and teeth, only one is deep. on one side you can kinda see one of his ribs. when i got him he even had some grass under his skin that i pulled out (how it got under i dont know). he is moving around but doesnt seem that alert. I stoped the bleeding and cleaned the wounds. what else can i do for it? it is so small and isnt acting like a normal jumpy coachwhip.
HELP!
anything would be apreciated, thanks

It should be left alone in a Deli cup with some papertowel to hide under and kept at 84 degrees. After the shock wears off and if organs weren,t punctured you should offer it some water. If the wounds heal try soaking it in water. Don't worry about food unless the skin has wrinkles. After a couple of weeks you can thread a moistened mouse tail down its throat and see if it can pass it through its system. I would suggest leting it go at that point as they are very hard to keep as hatchlings.
