ManhattenHerps i have a question?

jaym713 Sep 16, 2005 05:52 PM

My female just laid her first 2 eggs the first one i didnt get to in time but the 2nd one i did i put it in the tubberware with perlite to water ratio using that method i found online i have the tubberware in a tank with a 60 w light on all times and a sheet over half the tank to keep the heat in i know this isnt the best way to try n hatch eggs but anyway the egg is kinda deflated a lil bit does this mean it has no chance of hatching and is this happening bc its her first time laying eggs im asking you this bc u seem like one of the most expierienced here so please respond thankyou

ps do u think it will be better the way im doing it to use just a heatpad for the eggs and a 25w light bulb or just stay with the 60w?

while i didnt MEAN to be a jerk, it certainly did come off that way. i apologize, but at the same time, the people in this board need to loosen up a bit. sometimes people are just having a little fun. while i'm serious about leopard geckos, i'm also trying to have fun with it. and that was in fact, a huge run on sentence. or a run on paragraph. i don't know, either way, take it easy.....

I wouldn't worry about it. I'm a jerk all the time. I am not bothered so much by run on sentences and the like as I am by people who claim to know everything about leopard geckos but then show they know nothing. Or those who say, "Well, I know everything but this one thing," and then ask what they should feed their gecko, what it should live in, and if it is okay to house their leo, their pit bull, and their aligator in the same enclosure.

there was no need to be rude flammy...

jay, it is probably too hot, the temaps need to be stable, but a 1 or 2 degree fluctuation is okay, i think incubating like that isnt a very good idea, LLLreptile sells hovobator incubators for about 35, and it comes with deli cupos and vermiculite to incubate

the eggs need to be at a certain temperature, 80-83 for females, and 88-90 for males, 85 for a mix, the humidity inside the container needs to be in the 80's

i would suggest, if you dont have the money for a hovobator, go to a fish market and get a styrofoam box, then go to a pet store and buy am under water heater, fill the water up to about 3 1/2 inches, and put the heater in the water, next get a bron and lay it in the middle(this serves as a table for the egg container), get the temps correct and then put the eggs in.

a hovobator is the way to go though, and yes the eggs may not be fertile if it is her first clutch, if the eggs are white and firm, they are fertile, if they are yellowish and soft, they are infertile
