snakes, cats and fleas

greg woodie Sep 16, 2005 06:03 PM

i have 2 cats and about 30 snakes. both cats are covered with fleas. i've tried sprays and collars and nothing is working. i'm saving money to get Frontline because everybody tells me that's the best stuff. it's either that or bomb the house. my question is do i need to remove the snakes while the cats/house are being treated and for how long? i appreciate any help/advice.

If it were me I wouldn't bomb the house. Save for the Frontline Plus. The bombs put pesticide EVERYWHERE.(counters, food in cabinets...ick) And yes, take out every living thing. I wouldn't go back in with the snakes for like a day. But I am paranoid.
If you want to treat the house too then I would get a pump spray of kennel treatment that will kill eggs too. Spray under furniture and in under cushions. Towel it on around the herps. Treat the cats with Frontline.

Haven't we warned you about tampering with the structure of a chaotic system?

You would have to remove the snakes from the house in order to keep them safe. My sister in law had this same problem. Her cats were allowed to roam outside and come and go in the house at will. They were flea infested and she had fleas in the carpet as well!! Pretty nasty. They bombed the house and treated the cats with frontline and are now keeping them in the house and bought the kennel spray. They had a pretty bad infestation, and had to treat the house twice!!! No more fleas.
Man I hate cats. Just my personal opinion though, and no offense meant to anyone.

both of my cats are indoors, though.

Its like giving them flea bath but its a pill..They work very good at killing any live fleas on the cats..You have to give them at least every other day for a few weeks to get rid of all the existing fleas..Then again in a few weeks when the babies hatch to rid them completly..I use these on my dogs and cats through the summer and it controls the fleas pretty well without lots of poisons spread around...

cool! how much is it and where can you get it?

Steve_Craig Sep 19, 2005 09:53 AM

Is the Nuclear Bomb to fleas. There are several other brands out there, but I believe frontline to be the best, when it's "only fleas" your after. I have two dogs and a cat, and since we've used it on a regular basis, I've never seen a flea on them or in the house. Don't even waste your time and risk the health of your animals with spraying. Buy the fronline, you won't regret it.
Glad to hear your cats are indoors Greg. I totally agree with Hotshot when it comes to outdoor or feral cats. Nothing worse then having a neighbors cat taking a flying leap at your bird feeder, or running past your yard with a dangling snake in it's mouth.
P.S. How's that female page county Eastern Milk doing for you? You have her feeding pretty good now?

hey, Steve! sorry so late getting back with you. thanks for the advice! i'm gonna get the Frontline. the Milk snake seems to be doing fine. she shed again and actually spit up one time the last time i tried to feed her. she was probably stressed. i think she'll be okay, though. gonna try to feed her again soon. thanks for asking. you going to the Richmond show next month? maybe i'll see you there. take care and i'll talk to you again soon!
