New corn from SMR

AlteredMind99 Sep 16, 2005 09:59 PM

I just got my new baby blood red corn from Don at SMR. He ate on his first night home! i wasnt too surprised though, not with dons reputation. He is a great little guy, really mellow and easy to handle The pic isnt too great, but im still letting his rest of his meal and get used to his new home before i take him out for some better ones

I've been reading your posts on your new blizzard.
Give it a week, give it a month it doesn't matter.
Yes, you need to give it time to settle in but what I mean is most hatchling are going to be flighty.
Everything is a danger to them. They have a strong survival instinct and everything bigger then them is a threat.
Yes, some are calmer then others but it is nothing out of the ordinary for a hatchling to be flighty and nervous for a while.
After you give it time to settle in you just have to take the time to get it used to being handled.
Don't get surprised or discouraged if this takes a while.
And don't give up.
It is too small to hurt you if it bites so just continue to handle it and in time you will notice a change.
It will calm down

i know ive been posting constantly but its because this is my second corn, and my other corn i got as an adult so im really exited about it and worried at the same time.

if it is easy to stress should i worry more about her eating more than taming? i want a docile snake but id rather it be eating and healthy rather than docile and starving.

the other reason im so exited/worried is because shes so tiny, from looking at hatchling pictures i had no idea they were that small, shes so small and her skin is so thin that when you shine light under her you can literaly see through her, can you do that with normal or darker hatchlings?

thanks again

Virus is actually a hatchling, he is pretty small, one of the smallest corns i have had. I was expecting him to be nippy and flighty like most baby corns (my albino was a terror at that age!) but he is really mellow and sweet. I must have just got lucky, lol

You can usually see through snows and blizzards and some light amels and other hatchlings that lack a lot of darker pigmintation.
Can't see through normals and anerys and the darker specimens quite as easily.
I would definitely prefer a hyper feeder to a docile non-feeder.
You can tame a feeder but you can't feed a docile corpse.
The best, of course, is a docile feeder but I doubt you will have trouble.
If your snake came from Don at SMR I don't think you will have to worry.
Make sure you have proper habitat conditions, give it a little while to acclimate and all should go well.

i keep on hearing that don is a really good breeder, im starting to believe it.

when i came home today, it was just getting dark and i turned on the light to see blizz cruising around her cage again.

im going to thaw out a pinkie and just drop it in her cage and leave it overnight, i dont think that will stress her out 2 much since im not putting her in a little container again.

i droped a pikie in last night, and went to bed.

when i woke up i looked in the cage, no pinkie, i rubbed my eyes and blinked, still no pinkie.

im so proud of blizz, tonite when she roams around ill shine a flashlight under her and see a pinkie
