SOME COOL ULTRASOUND PICS !!......................>>

LindaH Sep 17, 2005 03:03 AM

Hey Everyone!! Tonight, my friend Tanya, and I ultrasounded some boa girls.

The pics, below, are of my female Motley, Missy, who bred with Murphy, a male Motley. When I first started scanning her, I was moving the probe too fast and we saw this.... Tanya said, "Look!! A hurricane!!" It does look like one in reverse doesn't it?

Then, I slowed down and started concentrating on each swirl. It was hard to count them, because she was bent in a couple of places and when I moved her, I would lose count However, I'm pretty sure there are at least 15 maybe 20 little "hurricanes".

We spent 20 minutes scanning and transferring the video to my laptop. The images here are very crappy because the image is transferred as composite and for whatever reason a lot of quality is lost......grrrrrrr.

The ultrasound screen shows a beautiful picture, but at least here, you get an idea of these little babies. In all the embryos there was movement.....sometimes a surprising amount! I only counted 1 of what I think might be a slug, but I'm not positive it is a slug. There was movement and obvious snake babies in everything else we could find. That is encouraging and gives me hope that she'll carry the litter to full term.....whenever that is....because there was no POS. She did not read the %^#@*& book! I hate that!! I guess I'm gonna have to start reading to these girls

This is what most of the embryos look like when you scan over them....sort of quickly

Here are some pics of little boa noggins. All of them were moving back and forth like they could actually see in the darkness inside their Mom!

If you go back to the top pic, you can see the head in the middle of the swirl and it looks like it is actually tongue flicking !! I can't hardly believe that they do that before birth.....but then, what do I know....haha!!

These next pics are some good head "shots" with more detail. It is amazing how much they move them around. After these images were captured, I went back and their heads were turned another direction.

This is the one with the most "transferred" clarity. It looks like something from the "Aliens" movie!

Same.....only larger.....

I wish these were as nice as they show on the machine itself. If any of you electronic geniuses out there have any suggestions about how NOT to lose image quality.....feel free, I'm all ears.

I'll try to get some more soon....

Thanks for looking,

Great pics, Linda. I have my fingures crossed for you that you produce some SM's.

Linda,
...Great detail in those scans. They show alot more small detail than I would have expected. I am guessing that those babies are within a couple weeks of being fullterm. What ultrasound machine are you using?

Hi Jeff,

It is a SIUI 485 and I use an equine trans-rectal probe. The probe has scanning ranges from 5.0 to 10.0 MGHZ with 7.5 being the one I use the most for the boas. The images on the ultrasound are so much better than you are seeing here and scaning under water is the best IMO. That's the only agravating thing.

I wasn't expecting to see such developed little snakelings and it was quite a shock to say the least!! Counting one after another of those little moving, wiggly guys was such a treat!

I wish ours came out that clear! We'll have to get a new probe or something I think. I love the "alien" looking one. Very nice details!

Thanks for sharing!

Thank you, you little hurricane trooper you

I traded my original machine back in for a 485 and got a transrectal probe. It works great, although I think I may have gotten great images from the 385 with the different probe.....I don't know for sure.....but I'm thinking the transrectal probe made the biggest difference. I'm trying to figure out how to get the image quality converted better. Right now, it is too grainy for me.

Yea, that one was pretty cool! He had his head up looking around like there was something to see ! It is amazing how much they move around and "LOOK" around inside their moms. Their little heads are all over the place!

the probe. I don't know, I'll have to ask Sean but maybe we can get a transrectal probe for our machine. I think the "alien" photo you posted was pretty darn good. If what you posted is grainy, then it must be amazing on your screen!

And since you bring it up, speaking of hurricanes, I wanted to post some photos a friend of mine forwarded me of Hurricane Katrina coming in. Since it's off topic, I didn't want to start a new thread. Some of you may have seen these already...these photos just blow me away...

Thanks,
Celia

THOSE PICTURES ARE AWESOME....AND THAT IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT.....WOW!!! I'm gonna have wallpaper for the next ten years

And yes, the 485 with the transrectal probe sends a great image to the ultrasound's monitor. I'll say this, if those boa babies had eyelids, I could have seen them blinking. It's quite a let-down when I view the video on my computer. I'm gonna work on losing less image quality.

....could possibly be? They're terrific and really cool. My boss threaten me with the purchase price of the entire machine when I explained I wanted to partially submerge the probe. I tried to argue that I should only be resposible for probe replacemnt, but really didn't fair well. After seeing those pics, I will just have to find an fellow sneaky person and enter in after hours. Did you scan and post those images or post them through a digi media manager?

Congrats on the probable litter. Thanks for posting.

LindaH Sep 18, 2005 02:39 AM

I'm assuming you work for a vet or doctor? You can always wrap the probe in a plastic baggie. Mine works so well under water, I can back it away from the boa's skin surface 2-3 inches and still get a good image. None of the probes are guaranteed to be waterPROOF, however, the transrectal probes are normally used inside cattle and horses, so I would think they are sealed pretty good Plus, the manual suggests soaking before cleaning.

My ultrasound has a video out thingy on the back. It comes with a Plextor digital video converter. The video leaves the machine as composite, goes through the converter and into my computer. My software saves the video and replays it. When I replay it, I pause and save the clips I really like, as jpgs. From what I understand, the image quality is lost from the machine to the computer. I can testify that the image I see on the machine's monitor is a lot nicer, clearer and more defined than what I get on the computer. I've tried 3 different software programs, and so far, none of them have made a noticeable difference.
