Sorry, but another Camera question, which to get?!?

EmberBall Sep 17, 2005 10:29 AM

I need a new camera, badly. Thinking about the Nikon D70 or Canon Rebel XT. I need a digital camera for close up snake pics, any ideas on what I should get for under $1000.

I just picked up the Nikon D70s - $1,200. For under $1000, you can't beat the D50. I read tons of reviews and that camera seems to rock pretty hard. You'll need a close-up lens though.

I prefer Canon. Think about what they offer as complete systems such as USM motors, wireless flash, inovative technology. THINK CAMERA SYSTEM. Just my opinion. GL

I needed a camera that could take everything from closeups to sports and wildlife. This meant I needed a camera body that could change lenses.

I got a Nikon coolpix 995, do they still make them? I've been very happy with it and have been getting good pics using just the auto setting. I think it ran about $800 with a rechargable battery, charger, down loading "stuff" and a case included.

The camera itself on something like a Digital SLR is going to have no effect on your abilities to do close-up shots...they just give you more control over what the camera is doing. After buying the camera, you'll have to shell out close to another $1k on a good 1:1 f2.8 macro lens. If you want close-ups, save yourself some money, and get a 5mp Nikon point and shoot digital...like a coolpix 5600. I have the crappiest nikon they've made in years, the 3mp SQ, and this is what it's capable of on close-up mode.

I really like my Canon A80, but if you have the money to get something better, go for it. The closeups are all in the macro though, so you don't HAVE to spend megabucks...

I use the Nikon and it works very well!

I have heard good things on the other one.

The Nikon Coolpix is a GREAT camera!

Kev
