racing stripes???

danya Sep 17, 2005 09:04 PM

this is a cross post, i also posted this in the genetics section....

okay, so this if my first clutch, and they are all distinctly different. the male is a nice red with gold tones, the female is normal with gold tones. Out of the 5 babies in the first clutch, one is striped, no diamond-checkered type pattern.
i'll describe the best i can, and post a picture hopefully soon
symetrically: furthest to the sides, it's a very thin stripe of very light tan. next stripe in is a fairly broad stripe of brown. next stripe is a slightly darker stripe of tan than the first. along the sides of his spine are very small spots of black, not a connecting line, and thin straight down his spine is a thin stripe of brown. the pattern stops at his tail, and the tail is brown with a couple blotches of tan, but hardly. his head is the normal striping on the sides, but the top of his head is one solid shade of brown, no markings. i've watched him thru a couple sheds, and there have been no changes to his markings.

out of the rest, 2 are gonna be red (normal markings, but red hues throughout), one will be gold, and one is a normal looking baby.

i've never heard of a striped dragon, has anyone else? i thought that perhaps he was just dull, and that his pattern would become more pronounces, but it's not changing, and doesn't compare to the others at all.

Striped babies are actually quite common. There is a few people breeding whats call a genetic pinstriped dragon. Often even in huge clutchs every single baby will be different. Anyways try and post a pic if you can.

that's weird, i've never seen a striped ever. up until last year, i had been working in pet stores for 5 years, and one that i had worked at bred beardeds, having over 300 babies at a time, and i never noticed any of them to be striped.
yeah, i mean, of course they won't all be clones, i expected differing patterns and colorings, but i didn't expect a striped guy. where could i see a picture of a pinstriped? that sounds very interesting

thanks

I am going to have to do some digging to find the website that had those stripes. I have hatched out multiple stripes in one clutch. I could be a trait passed on from one of the parents. Just like color sidebars and size are passed on. Ill try to find that website for you. Try and post a pic of him.

peace,
nate
