Thank you
They bury themselves halfway with their head sticking out.
My female buries herself entirely, only the eyes can be seen
My Crotalus cerastes don't bury themselves at all..

Hi: How are you?
I am trying to talk to as many people with Crotalus cerastes as possible. I was just wondering if yours is a good eater. I have heard that sometimes they can be tricky eaters in captivity. What has been your experience with it? And what tips or tricks or methods do you use to get them to start eating in captivity?
Thanks for your help.
sicnere.

Longtang. I like snakes and rats.
Well, Currently I've got 2 Crotalus cerastes cercobombus, A friend of mine also has 2, we keep our collection in the same house.
When I bought my animals one of them still refused to eat. The breeder showed how to force feed a piece of rat-tail, and wished me good luck...
(still rely on him every now and then for info) (bear in mind these were my first hots.
From then on the snakes fed without problems. (just my luck I guess.
The only thing which i"m not sure about is the gender,: my 2 snakes feed the same ammount of prey items, as those of my friends', mine stay a lot smaller.. My guess is that I've got 2 males and he has 2 females
Anyway, somewhere in my posts, there's a link to my breeders'website.
He also wrote the article about Crotalus cerastes on the SHHS website, go check it out, very nice reading
Cheers,
Peter
(the pic is of one of the females, not very good quality however..)

Wow. That is a beautiful animal. My jaw is on the floor right now because it is a stunning animal.
That is a very persuasive picture. What I mean is, after seeing that photo, I am really having a hard time not running out and just buy this species. I have been wanting and researching it for a long time now.
The Hamburg Show is coming up and I may very well get one and just try my luck. I will make sure to pick a nice and healthy animal that at least has been a long time captive, so that I can minimize problems with feeding.
I am not really skilled to be doing force feedings and hope to avoid that if I can.
I will do a search in the archives and look for your link to your breeder's web site.
Thanks so much. I will keep you updated. I know I will have many more questions in the future if I do decide to go with the sidewinder.
Let me just say once more: Gorgeous. Gorgeous. Gorgeous. I am in love.
cheers.

Cerastes cerastes is a lot harder to find captive bred, though, and imports can come in kind of rough because they're from overseas...

That is Great! Look at those horns on the Cerastes cerastes.
. I have a smile on my face from looking at you guy's photos. I have drool, too! What I mean is I am drooling over your collections.
It is nice to be able to live vicariously through the members of this group. I love you guys's snakes, even though obviously I am not going to be able to afford to get one of everything I see. Still fun to look
cheers.

is that they reguularly stay off their food for prolonged times, sometimes you even have to force feed adults several months before they start eating voluntailily again
(that's our experience anyway with Cerastes vipera)
Someone I've met through the internet is currently conducting a study on behaviour and breeding in captivity on several desert viperids, he has a Cerastes cerastes male who refuses to eat.
the snake is now fed regularly with leopard-gecko babies which are eagerly eaten
Bye
Peter
I'll post a pic of the Cerastes eating a leopard gecko if I get authorization
There are some problems with the URL
Thought you could use some help here

Thanks Tom, I kinda went too fast for myself, promising to show a picture, later realising that I had to ask you, cause you took it, and then finding out it was missing
Thanks anyway, talk to you soon
