Sand as a Substrate?

mandapanda Sep 17, 2005 10:38 PM

Hey everyone!

I just got a few new baby turtles... two hieroglyphic river cooters and a yellow bellied slider.

While I understand the substate should not be able to be swallowed (such as pea-sized gravel) can I use Repti - Sand for now? I used to use it with my softshells but i'm afraid it will irritate these new guys.

So, what do you guys reccomend?

you use sand for softys because its nonabrasive so it wont bother your lil guys. i wouldnt use it though, slidrs tend to dig through the substrate looking for food and will create too big of a mess. i always just use a medium to large size gravel and have never had any probs.
