One of the first signs is often an inability to support their weight and walk properly as the density and strength of the leg bones decrease. A softening of the shell may become evident, particularly in growing animals. If the deficiency affects the blood calcium levels it can manifest as an extreme lack of co-ordination and/or tremors.
