Affectionate snakes?

meconiumman Sep 18, 2005 08:00 AM

Hi, I was thinking of starting with snakes, and I just had a funny question: Which of the snakes do you regard as being affectionate? Or does it all depend on exposure?

There are tamer more friendly snakes but I dont think they can really be affectionate...My common boa is very calm and friendly as is my ball python and my corns,,but I dont think they love me..they just tolerate me..And dont mind being handled...Its really hard to read a snake anyway..They dont wag their tails or lick me or come to me asking to be petted so how does one know if a snake is being affectionate?

Out of 4 eastern hognose I have one that is affectionate towards me. This one is set up right by my computer. When ever I am at the comp. he comes out and watches me. As soon as my husband walks in the room he hides. When I hold him he is calm, anyone else he is very wiggly. All 4 are held on a regular basis by me and my daughter. Then there is my male, he always comes out to watch my husband. Especially when he plays his guitar, but the others could care less. He really watches too, he will track him all over the room. It is rather funny because my husband is not a big snake fan. He really just tolerates it because of me and my daughter, but this guy has almost changed his heart. Sometimes he now walks into the room just to "visit" All 4 are in the same room, so they all have the same amount of people "traffic". They just appear to be warmer towards certain individuals. Weither that is true affection is anybodys guess, but I know they recgonize the individuals in my family.

I disagree! most snakes are indifferent if not somewhat nippy... BUT... my cornsnake will literally climb into my hand when I open her tank.
