Didn't make it

PHRatz Sep 18, 2005 11:28 AM

Twelve days ago I took my lab animal class to my vet's hospital to observe a rat tumor removal & spay but while we were there someone had dropped off a hit by car ornate box turtle.
Nobody knows how long that box turtle had sat on the road suffering with the injuries.
I really thought with the fluids, medications, the shell repair, the feeding tube in place that this one was going to make it but she didn't.
The vet said she really perked up quite a bit after being fed but then after 24 hours or so after the shell repair she crashed & didn't survive. If she'd been sitting on the road hurt for a couple of days then maybe that's why she couldn't get well.. who knows?

What a shame because she was beautifully marked, I was really disappointed to hear she didn't make it.

I hate to hear that! I remember reading your post about her...sure was hoping this would have a happy ending but I guess not... At least someone took her in to the vet and she didn't have to die on the side of the road. Still, poor girl! ~Christy~

I was glad that someone was good enough to pick her up & take her to the vet, at least she had a chance.
On the road she had zero chance, it's too bad but you can't save them all.
Like I said to the vet, my Shell E had what on the outside looked like a similar injury but Shell E got treatement in less than 24 hours after we found her on a Sunday evening. That's why she made it, she got treated as soon as I could get her in on Monday.
I took Shell E to a vet who's not even a herp vet because my herp vet didn't live here then.
If my herp vet couldn't save this other one, nobody could've but at least she died in a comfortable place.
