Orange poo...

Justin M Jul 19, 2003 02:52 AM

I just noticed my chameleon had some orange poop on the bottom of his cage and then there was also another pile next to it that looked liquiddy white. I think I saw something earlier that someone had the same thing but can't seem to find that post now. Is this normal. He was on crix but now is on silkies for the past week and 1/2. I don't know what other info ya need. Thanks!

Hi Justin - that was my post about Makeda's poop. I linked you to it below. Cham's excrete urates (the equiv. to pee) and a more solid poop. I always thought it was to be a dark brown and white/cream but apparently it depends on what they eat. Apparently if the urates (runny portion) is orange then there are problems. Go the the image and then read the thread if you want - good poop talk. There was an earlier thread (probably on page 3 or 4 by now!) about poop - that one got pretty funny!

I read all the messages and thewy didn't really say much on wha the deal is with the orange poo. I am hoping it is because he was just switched to silkworms.

the general concensus was that it could be from dehydration. I would make sure your cham is getting enough to drink either from a dripper or from the mistings. Do you ever see the cham drink? I don't all the time, but occasionally I'll catch one heading for a drink.

Justin,

If you read them all then that should have included the one from anson stating "Lele, it's orange urates that are bad and mean dehydration np"

My post regarding what Liddy Kammer (breeder I purchased from) said that it is normal was what I wanted to refer you to. And, as I said, there is NO need to worry if the urates are white or cream and the solid (pellet)is brown or orange.

It is when the URATES ARE ORANGE that there is a dehydration problem.

So the bottom line for you is that there is no need to worry

Dehydration;99% chance

OK, now none of this is making sense....you say dehydration whereas my breeder says not to worry unless URATES are orange, not pellet. No wonder Justin is confused

Is there an online article that you know of that deals specifically with feces (color, etc.) & health?

thanks,
lele

I doubt it is dehydration because I see him drink sometimes. I mist the cage 2 times a day and have a drip system. He is very active and his eyes are not sunken. I dunno, I'm not going to worry but I'm going to keep an eye on him like usual!

I am pretty sure it's the urates being orange that mean dehydration. If Lele asked the Kammers of Kammerflage and they said the same thing I would go by what they said they are a very reputable breeder.(I am on one of their waiting lists for a female panther)
