Has anyone ever set a 90 gallon tank on its side and used it as a vertical tank? I was thinking about trying it but didn't know if it could handle it's own weight since it wasnt designed for that. Any suggestions?

Well, you could reinforce inside the tank itself by adding another layer of glass cut to the exact length and width of the interior walls, grab some pet friendly silicone along the edges and clap it really good, if you take your time and do it one side at a time, you won't be able to tell there two panes of glass there. It's going to make it heavier but obviously stronger at the same time. Or, if your good with wood, you could build a frame that would fit inside the tank yet over lap with the lip of tank. Doing this would also give you a secure mounting point for a hinged door of some sort built to the size of the opening, I can draw out the frame idea if you'd like.
Thank you for the advice, I think the wood idea would be better off for me because while I am lousy with wood, my father is a carpenter so with his skills and your brain, this should turn out great. haha. If you have some time could you possibly send out an image of what you mean because I don't follow exactly. I am also going to have to put some type of hinged door on there too so it should work out good. My email is prettypoisons@sbcglobal.net. Thank you very much. Anthony.
I'll work on some plans this weekend, I need to see if I can find my AutoCAD programs if not I'll have to find another way to do it, might end up doing it on graph paper and scan it for yah, could you send me a pic of the tank along with inside/outside dimensions it would be great to know how much space I'd be designing around.
hey there. i did that exact thing last month to my 80 gallon (72 x 21 x 13). built a wood frame on the inside with two shelves, hinges, doors and locks. stuffed it full of vines and called it good.
